Mohamed Chahin's Vision: Health and Convenience Delivered

Let me introduce you to Mohamed Chanin! He is the Co-Founder of eatclever, a virtual restaurant brand focused on healthy food. Together with his partners, Marco Langhoff and Robin Himmels, they recognized the need for innovation in the takeaway restaurant industry.

Thinking of customer demands, they saw the growing customer base around healthy food as a perfect opportunity for their product. As a result, Mohamed’s hard-working habits earned him a well-deserved place on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 Europe 2019: Retail & eCommerce list and the 30 Under 30 DACH list.

Hi Mohamed, and welcome to this interview! Firstly, I would like to thank you for taking the time to be a part of this mission! It means a lot. Can you tell us more about who you are and what you do? How did you choose the career that you have today?

Mohamed Chahin

When I was around 13/14 I realized that my uncle is an entrepreneur and I listened to how my family was talking about him.

It was so inspiring I decided that’s the path I’m going to take. From that day on I tried to spend as much time as possible learning about how to become successful.

One of the books that inspired me the most is “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill. At the age of 20, I started my studies but after only 2 weeks I dropped out. I learned about startups and that I don’t need a degree to build a company, that was life-changing for me.

After failing two startups I co-founded eatclever together with Marco Langhoff and Robin Himmels in 2015. A virtual restaurant brand fully focused on healthy food.

That being said, I would like to talk about your business idea. How did you and Robin Himmels come up with it? What was the most crucial problem you recognized for starting your own company? What kind of change are you initiating?

Mohamed Chahin

Takeaway restaurants had not seen innovation in decades. Most had no processes in place, no product that would fit today’s customer demands and where badly utilized.

So we thought we can help to fill the free capacities with a product that is needed and wanted by a growing customer base: healthy food.

I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate you and Robin Himmels for being among Forbes 30 under 30! Have you ever thought you would come this far? How was that experience for you?

Mohamed Chahin

This whole year is absolutely crazy and we have 6 more months. In the past six months, we not only expanded to Switzerland but also to the UK.

After being on the 30 Under 30 List of Europe, we even made this year 30 Under 30 DACH list, which is funny because I didn’t even know it’s possible to be on two lists. I guess it’s all about timing as well.

Virtual restaurants are super hot right now as more and more major players are moving into this space.

What is the hardest part of your job? How well do you manage your time? What is the best time-management trick you do not mind sharing with us?

Mohamed Chahin

Leading a team. I’m working on it every day but far from perfect.

What I found out is that habits are the best way to manage your time. Implement habits, especially in the morning.

What is your opinion on smart vs. hard work? Do you think education is necessary for success? Please explain.

Mohamed Chahin

You need both of course. Especially when you’re starting out you simply don’t know how to work “smart” and you have no resources to delegate tasks.

At the same time, you have to learn, learn, learn. Books are the best way to learn how to work smart (in my opinion).

How would you describe a healthy working environment? When working in a team, what are the five most important things that everyone should consider?

Respect others
Value others
Give responsibility
Have fun
Have a mission/purpose

What is the one thing you wish you had known before you opened your own business? What are the best and worst parts of running a business at a young age?

Mohamed Chahin

A strong partner is helpful, and healthy relationships in general. You need people that support you emotionally.

The best thing is that compared to others in your age you know what you want and you do exactly what helps you get there.

The worst part is you probably have no network and need to build it from scratch.

Who is your most significant influence? Why? Who is the person you could not have made it without? According to you, what matters in life?

Mohamed Chahin

My family and my best friends. They give me a lot of energy. And that’s the only thing that matters because healthy relationships make us happy.

Where do you see yourself and eatclever ten years from now? Do you have any plans?

Mohamed Chahin

Of course, we will be the biggest restaurant chain in the world. Serving people with the food they will feel good after eating it.

At last, what is the best advice you were ever given? What would you advise all the young people struggling in business?

Mohamed Chahin

Go out and just do it.

I would recommend everyone to read as many books as possible.
