Kosta Petrov's Journey to Self-Improvement and Success

Meet Kosta Petrov, a bestselling author, entrepreneur, and CEO of P World, which organizes some of the biggest events in marketing, PR, and HR globally. Through his writing, Kosta has managed to motivate and inspire many people, so it was an honor to hear his approach to life and advice in business.

Kosta was recognized as Kongres Magazine’s Most Influential Personality in the Events Industry in Southeast Europe in 2014 & 2015. Moreover, his entrepreneurial spirit has led him to roles such as the Producer and Director of Fear: The Documentary, Macedonia’s first-ever documentary shown in commercial cinemas, as well as Chief Communications Adviser at the Ministry of Healthcare in the Republic of Macedonia and Contributing Author at The Huffington Post.

Join me in learning how a financial crisis led Kosta to establish his own business, his definition of success, and how he writes books based on his life experience!

The Logician

First of all, thank you for taking the time to participate in this. You are a bestselling author, an internationally renowned entrepreneur, and the founder of P World, among other things. What led you to take so many career paths, and how did everything begin in the first place?

Kosta Petrov

I actually never dreamt of becoming an entrepreneur. When I was 21, I moved to Dubai and had an amazing job.

I lived the life of my dreams until 2008 when the financial crisis hit the country, and the life that I thought was real simply disappeared.

At the same time, my daughter was born so I was faced with some very important questions in my life — most importantly, what kind of example am I going to be for my daughter?

I was tired of being a victim so after two years of financial and nervous breakdowns, my wife and I made the decision to move back to Macedonia and start our own business.

Most probably, if the financial crisis didn’t happen, I would have still worked for someone else.

So, P World is a result of a couple of meltdowns, severe depression but most importantly, a proof that it is always darkest before dawn.

This is actually one of the reasons why I wrote my first book. I wanted to show my daughter that chaos is temporary and perseverance is the key to success.

What is the secret to your success? Even more importantly, what is the secret to your time management? It’s truly amazing and inspiring that you do so many things at once and are successful in all of them.

Perseverance is the key to success. But not the kind of that is being promoted these days. Success is not about not giving up and being a hustler. Success actually has nothing to do with it.

First of all, success is something that is very personal — what success means to me, might not have the same meaning to you and vice versa. I don’t believe in universal definitions of success. We all have our own paths to follow.

Secondly, to truly appreciate success you also have to appreciate the hardships that come with it.

People like to believe that success is about having a lot of money, living the dream, and being on top of the world but they are not fully aware of all the things that come with success — sleepless nights, anxiety, fear of letting go, etc.

Success is much complex than we think and has very little to do with what is being currently promoted as a success.

Finally, what we have to realize is that our success or failures as entrepreneurs do not define us. We are much more than our companies.

As for time management, I am not the best person to talk about it because I am not very good at it.

What I am good at is giving the maximum in any given situation. When I am at work, I give my max and make sure I am the best. Same at home. It is all about having the right priorities in life.

You are the CEO of the P World. Can you tell us more about your company and the idea behind it?

Kosta Petrov

P World is an international creative agency operating in 40 different countries around the world.

We organize some of the biggest events in marketing, PR, and HR and, at the same time, we provide PR services to governments and celebrities.

When we launched the company back in 2010, our vision was to bring global business expertise to some of the world’s most exciting markets.

We were the first ones to organize global gatherings in countries like Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Serbia, and Croatia.

We are also the first ever agency to organize a global business event in Iran.

Two years ago, we also expanded to North America and this year, we organized our first ever event in Korea. I am so proud of the work my team is doing.

40 countries in 8 years is a huge success. We are privileged to work with some of the world’s biggest brands and our main focus since day one has been to change business reality.

Your company organizes events all over the world, which probably means that you travel a lot. According to your experience, what are the best aspects of this, and which ones are the worst?

Kosta Petrov

I travel around 100 days a year and sometimes I love it, sometimes I don’t.

This is the life that I chose to live and I am not complaining about it. I have the privilege to travel to so many nice places, stay at some of the best hotels in the world and spend my time with some of the brightest people on this planet.

I am truly blessed to have the life that I have. I wouldn’t change it for anything.

You are a bestselling writer, and your books have been a significant success. What would you say is the inspiration and motivation behind your books? What is the thing that differentiates an author from a bestselling author?

Kosta Petrov

I write about the things that have happened to me and the lessons that I have learned.

I am a strong believer that we all should share the lessons we have learned, whether by writing a book, talking to a friend or sharing it in social media.

We all face similar problems.

We live in a world that is constantly changing and even though we are connected more than ever, the circle of people around us that we can share our fears with is smaller than ever.

I want to inspire people to share their problems, their stories, their fears. You don’t have to walk alone through the hardships of life.

According to you, what is the first step towards self-improvement?

Kosta Petrov

To understand that there are no rules.

We tend to attach ourselves to rules of success but the truth is that there is no key or rules to success. Just give your max in every situation and realize that everything that happens to you is for the good.

What would it be if you had to choose one thing/person that you believe is responsible for your success?

Kosta Petrov

My parents.

They come from small villages in Macedonia and they have worked so hard to give me and my sister proper education and a good start in life. Without them, none of this would have been possible. They are my greatest inspiration.

Are you currently working on any new projects currently or maybe on a new book?

Kosta Petrov

I am currently wrapping up my fifth book which is called the “Power of Perseverance.” I have been writing it for a year now and hopefully, it will be out very soon.

This is a question I ask every person I interview, and I am curious about your answer. Where do you see yourself and your business five to ten years from now?

Kosta Petrov

I exactly know where I will be but I am a firm believer in one thing — always keep your plans concealed.

Last but not least, is there anything that you would like to share with young aspiring entrepreneurs?

The success or failure of your business, do not define you. You are much more than your business.
